St Peter’s special offer – (or how to approach the New Year)

You arrive at the pearly gates, and St Peter says:

“Just for today we have a special offer.
If you like, you can go back and do your entire life all over again.”

So you say “What happens if I stay here in Heaven?”

“Not a lot, really, but it’s laid back and mellow for ever and ever….”

“If I take up the special offer, will I be able to make any changes?”  and he says

“Nope – everything exactly as before, good and bad – but of course it will all be new to you.”

Well?  Well?   Come on…  “  (parroting Paxman).

Obviously, in conversation with your mates at the pub this idea can prompt some surprising admissions – particularly if they have a tendency to a vin triste – and naturally one tends to weigh up the most horrible  experiences.

But rather than the highs and lows, suppose you focus on the totality?  For most of us the main part of our waking life has been the time spent at work.     Would you be prepared to do it all again, exactly as before?  If it’s been a bit pony so far, could you make some changes today which will help your decision in front of St P?
