“Lord, what fools these mortals be. . . “
Aren’t they, though? But sometimes it’s best to join them.
A successful DJ (let’s call him John, because that isn’t his name) found one evening that he was no longer enjoying his rewarding career. The problem was that he had suddenly realised just how idiotic his fellow humans look when they’re dancing. It wasn’t just “dad dancing”; it was everybody – their body contortions, their facial expressions, their attachment at arms length. That perception stayed with him for each subsequent gig, and he found it irritating and depressing.
Eventually, sharing his thoughts, he recovered some of his work pleasure by recognising that the foolishness is everywhere; we’re all at it; dancing is just one of the more overt displays. And it is insignificant compared with the serious ghastliness all over the world.
Now, he still finds it difficult to empathise with the party goers, but recognises how lucky we are to be sharing kindness and wellbeing. He has perfected the knack of adopting an alternate persona as soon as he is front of house and his career with the mixers continues.
